A popular children’s pain reliever is being pulled from shelves nationwide after contamination concerns triggered a recall of nearly 90,000 bottles, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
In an enforcement report, the agency said 89,592 bottles of liquid children’s ibuprofen are impacted. The recall was initiated by manufacturer Strides Pharma after complaints described a “gel-like mass and black particles” found inside the medication.
The product, which was made in India for Taro Pharmaceuticals and distributed across the United States, is commonly used to treat fever and pain in children. The recall specifically affects 4-fluid-ounce bottles with lot numbers 7261973A or 7261974A and an expiration date of Jan. 31, 2027.
The FDA classified the recall as Class II, meaning the product could cause temporary or medically reversible health effects, though the likelihood of serious harm is considered low. These types of recalls are typically handled at the retail level, with products removed from store shelves rather than from consumers’ homes unless further action is deemed necessary.
Even so, health experts are urging caution. Parents and caregivers should not give children the recalled medication. If a child may have already taken it, they are advised to contact a healthcare provider. Experts also recommend consulting a pediatrician before giving any medication to children under the age of 2.
